Northgate Chambers

A concept build for a fictional barristers' chambers that needs a credible multi-practice site and clear routes for solicitor referrals.

Northgate Chambers concept build
// The brief

What we set out to solve

Northgate is an invented set of chambers we designed to show how a mid-sized practice could present its people, its practice areas and its instructing process without looking like every other legal directory listing. The brief: authoritative, easy to navigate, and unmistakably built for the instructing solicitor.

// Approach

How we'd build it

01

Practice-area architecture

Each practice group (Commercial, Family, Crime, Public) gets its own landing page with named barristers, recent work themes and a direct clerks' contact — replacing the generic 'Our People' grid that most chambers sites default to.

02

Barrister profiles as entry points

Every profile is a proper page with call-year, appointments, notable cases (redacted where needed) and Person schema — so a Google search for the individual lands on a chambers-owned page, not LinkedIn.

03

Instructing flow

A dedicated 'Instruct a barrister' route with clerks' direct line, out-of-hours contact and a short brief-upload form that files straight into the clerks' inbox with the practice area pre-tagged.

// Scope

What's in a build like this

This is what the delivered project would include end-to-end under the Pixel Ten package.

  • 8-page site with practice-area hubs
  • Individual barrister profile pages
  • Copywriting from clerks' interviews
  • Legal-sector SEO groundwork
  • Clerks' enquiry routing
  • 10 working-day delivery target
// Search intent

What the audience is actually Googling

Instructing solicitors and lay clients search differently. Solicitors Google chambers plus practice area ('commercial chambers Manchester', '[barrister name] chambers'); lay clients search by problem ('barrister for financial remedy hearing'). The site has to answer both without diluting either.

// Why this build stands out

What separates it from a template professional services site

Practice areas as ranked hubs

Each practice area is a keyword-targeted page with named barristers, recent themes and clerks' contact — so it ranks for the solicitor's actual search, not just the chambers name.

Barrister profiles with Person schema

Every profile carries structured data, call year, appointments and specialisms — so an individual name search returns the chambers page above third-party directories.

Clerks-first enquiry flow

Brief upload with practice-area routing filters the noise and gets the right clerk on the right instruction faster.

// FAQ

Questions we get about builds like this

Can barristers edit their own profiles?+
Yes — the CMS is set up so each barrister (or their clerk) can update appointments, cases and CVs without a developer, and changes flag for a clerks' review before going live.
How does this handle direct-access enquiries vs solicitor referrals?+
Two distinct paths from the practice-area page — one for instructing solicitors (clerks' line + brief upload), one for direct-access clients (guidance page + qualified enquiry form).
Is this suitable for a smaller set?+
Yes — the architecture scales down cleanly to a 15-30 barrister set on Pixel Ten. Larger sets with silks and multiple regional bases tip into Pixel Twenty.
Do we need to redraw the practice groups?+
No — we work from the existing practice-group structure and interview the clerks. If there's a case for reorganising, we flag it, but the decision stays with the chambers.
